                    L' Association Zaila

L'ASSOCIATION ZAILA

Only the nomads of the Sahara understand and use this word
which means "momentary transition". It also indicates the camels,
paying homage to them for without these amazing desert vessels,
a wandering lifestyle could not have existed. The magic word Zaila,
derived from Azalai, the name for the famous salt caravans
and Azouzal which indicates the adult camel, first resistant and the
overcome and finally it describes the challenge of the transitory
passage of man on earth and our responsibility to respect
the fragile environment of the desert,
for the other splendid species, animals and plants,
also so precious to man.

L‘ Association Zaila's mission is to protect the South Moroccan desert. Since 2005, together with Mhamid Elghizlane, L‘ Association Zaila has organized cleaning operations of plastic waste and of
the non biodegradable products.
These operations saw the participation of the population,
of the schools, local associations and local authorities.

Other actions since were born:
A project is now being developed for
alternative solutions, in parallel with the annual "clean-up" operation,
by developing the artisan production of natural and biodegradable
elements such Gouffas, Sellas, Hsairs, Ghrair... etc
practically driven out of the souks and the markets
by the black plastic bags.

SAHARA-ROOTS FOUNDATION

A very ambitious project of the planting of trees took place
on the edge of Mhamid in collaboration with the Dutch foundation
"Sahara-Roots" who initiated this action. Zaila and Sahara-Roots planted more than 150 trees around Sidi Khalil in March 2008.
At present the majority of these trees continue to grow thanks
to the support of the local population.

ALL THESE ACTIONS CONVERGED TOWARDS THE SAME OBJECTIVE:
THAT THIS GATHERING BECOME A CULTURAL AND MUSICAL EVENT:
THE TARAGALTE SAHARA CULTURE  FESTIVAL
