Festival Taragalte - Hymne to the Sahara

We like to welcome you to our festival. During the last 9 editions we have learned and grow together as a team and with the community. The Taragalte Festival was born in 2009, inspired from the Moussem and Its traditions, in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the region and to promote the nomadic cultural heritage. Today, the festival is a real hymn to the Sahara that invites you to discover or rediscover its geography, its history and the mystery of its immensity, the phantasmagoria of its luminous nights, its changeable winds, its sovereign anger, its environment both hostile and fragile but also so generous and rich. Taragalte means ‘meeting place’, a festival to meet and connect with local and international people who share the love of music, art & culture. Our artists mix with the crowd which gives the festival a unique atmosphere of sharing and connecting. Take a walk through the nomadic camp and learn from locals all about nomadic culture, participate in a workshop or dance with us into the night. Actually, we are one big family!

The 10th Edition of Taragalte

For the 10th edition of the Taragalte Festival, we invite the public to discover the links that unite us through Art and Culture by integrating practices of the world to make them dialogue with our Saharan culture and nourish the wisdom of the desert sands. Nomads of the world's edition on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s footsteps will bring together groups and music from different parts of the world to enrich the sharing we have initiated for years at M'Hamid El Ghizlane. Artists and speakers with rich and diverse backgrounds and plural inspirations will be invited to take part in the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's humanistic journey. Americas, Africa and Europe will be the invited continents. The programming is conceived as a journey through the heart of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s work and his extraordinary career. The author’s favourite themes will be our avenues of discussion.

Taragalte, an Eco-friendly festival

The Taragalte Festival places sustainability and the protection of the environment at the heart of its project. Since 2009, the Festival is located in the oasis of M'hamid El Ghizlane, in the province of ZAGORA (southern Morocco), an oasis threatened by the advance of the desert. To cope with drought and desertification, Taragalte Festival recognizes the preservation of oasis and as models of resilience to climate change. With the ambition to revive the Oasis of M'hamid El Ghizlane, the festival aspires to act on the local sphere by protecting the ecosystem and empowering the inhabitants through training and awareness actions.

Caravan of Peace

In the spirit of cultural cooperation, Taragalte welcomes the 6th ‘Cultural Caravan for Peace’ and dedicates a special night to peace and stability in the Sub Saharan region. The Cultural Caravan for Peace is a creative Trans-Saharan Sahel project, supporting dialogue, cultural exchanges and social cohesion in the Sahel and Sahara regions. Through music and art, the Caravan will provide the people of the Sahara and the Sahel region a platform to meet, exchange ideas in order to promote and preserve the cultural heritage.
